History:

The Mabaan people are originally believed to originate from the Luo. According to the history, they separated from the Shilluk in Soba near Khartoum presumably in the wake of the collapse of the las Christian Kindong of Mkkura. As they migrated toward the east traveling along Baro River in Ethiopia, they reach the place presently called Mabaan.

In relations to to the other tribes in the South, Mabaan are in the same Nilotic sections with Dinka, Nuer, Shilluk. They have great affinity with Shilluk because they're sub-tribe dated back to the kingdom area.

Mabaan County is located in Upper Nile state, Mabaan officially promoted to be a county in 1992 during the National Islamic Front regime. With in its 16 years of existence as a County, six commissioners have serviced in Mabaan County.

Marriage:

Marriage among the Mabaan is for reproduction of children and for the expansion of the family. Mabaan people marriage according their age groups and generation. It's not surprise that an individual could missed out to marry the person he or she loves if he or she did not find love one with in the age-mate group.

Marriages usually are conducted during the harvest time accompanied by tow ceremonies.
