The name Mabaan came from the indigenous people called Mabaan. It stands for; ‘people of the land’.

Mabaan is geographically located in north east Upper Nile states. It borders with; Blue Nile region in the north east, Rank, County in the west,  Maluth County, and Longichuk in the south.

Fact: Given the fact that mass majority of people living outside Mabaan County during the war have been repatriated back to Mabaan, the population is now estimated to top 260,000.

Mabaan County Emblem signifies the four important assets that have shaped their lives ever since occupying into the land they now called Mabaan.

  1. Boomerang: The people of Mabaan have used Boomerang for hunting, weapon for protection for long time.
  2. Hoe: Like any other culture in the South Sudan, Hoe is a significantly important for cultivation of the farms during the rainy season.
  3. Corn: Among many crops grown in the area, corn is hugely popular in Mabaan County. It’s the source of food.
  4. PIG: While many people in South Sudan possessed cattle’s, Pig has shaped the lives of people of Mabaan County for century. It’s use for dowry during the marriage ceremonies.
